My great aunt is not very technically minded, and when I suggested to her that she got a computer, she looked at me as if I had just come from Mars. I really thought she would benefit from a computer, so for her birthday I bought her one. A friend of the family is a web developer so I got him to explain the basics. We searched for the best broadband available in her area and got her hooked up to the Internet. She didn't understand the whole broadband thing and after trying to explain it to her 3 times we gave up and just told her she was on broadband and that's all she needed to know.
It didn't take her long before she was hooked to the internet. We set google up as her home page and she was off. She was so shocked when she realised she could do a booking on-line for her train ticket. She phoned me up all excited and said: " Guess what I have just done. I have booked on-line my train ticket". She was over the moon. She agreed that booking on-line was very convenient and said she would be booking on-line from now on.
I would get at least 3 phone calls a week from her, all excited, telling me about all the searches she had done on google and the endless pages of information available. She is very pleased with having the Internet, despite her first reservations. It is very convenient for her as she is elderly anddoesn't get out very much. She joined a website, she found on google, and has found some of her old school friends on there, so she has been able to catch up with old friends too.
I remember when I first had the Internet, I was on it all the time. I would wake up in the middle of the night and go and check my emails. It is a great way to catch up with old friends, meet new friends and tolearn about things. I would be lost now if I didn't have the Internet, it is such a great thing!
