Working in a webdesign agency, I had a network of friends that used to meet up at least once every week for drinks and a chat. This was a regular occurrence that sometimes got out of hand after a few drinks, and alot of money getting spent along the way.

Of course, with the recession the noisy nights got quieter as the funds became less available as fewer people joined us for drinks. We were sat around talking one night and trying to come up with new money making schemes. We had all sorts of ideas including the usual car washing, part time evening work but when would we get to socialise? We loved our night out and had a really good network of friends that were willing to help with anything.

We came up with the idea of on-line investing but of course to do this we would need something to invest and something to invest in. We suggested first of all, we would all use a different internet browser to search on-line investing and see what was available, then we would research each idea to see who had the best product. My browser was so slow and I was struggling to come up with anything.

Not wanting my friends to feel that I wasn't pulling my wait, I started to contact my personal network of family and friends to see who was interested in on-line investing and who had some spare money to invest. Surprisingly, my family were really supportive and I raised much more than we could ever have hoped for, this made me feel better for not doing my part of the internet search.

At our next meeting, we laid out all our ideas. When I had nothing to show my friends looked at me with disappointment. I had to explain that my browser wasn't working properly but all was not lost, I had the funds to invest straight away in the right company. Then we could use the returns from the investment to reinvest in further companies and we would be able to return the original investments to the owners with some return. That seemed to cheer everybody up. We started slow, but surely our investment paid off and we are now back to the noisy nights out despite the recession.
