Thoughts on Technology

When I am extremely stressed out with working at the office, thoughts of doing my own business or working from home, come to mind. The desire to be free from rigid working hours, traffic jams, demanding clients, unreasonable bosses and office politics is sometimes overwhelming. Perhaps I could turn my hobbies into some money-making ventures, just as some of these entrepreneurs have been raving about.

One of my hobbies is reading and collecting books from my favorite authors and genres. This has been an interest ever since I could read. It would be interesting to go into an online business dealing with buying and selling used books; this will also mean that I need not venture out from home. The very thought of this really warms my heart and brightens my dreary day.

My good friend Joe, who is an expert at webdesign, will help me set up a website; where the books can be presented in the most appropriate and appealing format to an online market. Easy searches by author, title and genre or even tags will enable the potential customer to find the book he or she wants.

Expensive advertising is out of the question, so Joe will list the website with popular search engines like google, yahoo and so on. He will have to find an innovative way of getting traffic to my website in google search; else it will be lost within the millions of websites listed there.

Joe also owns an internet cafe, where we spent a lot of time on google, searching for information on book sales and suppliers. He suggested using a corner of the internet cafe to display books. That was an interesting idea, which we soon expanded into a cozy corner at the internet cafe. His customers can sit and read books (at a nominal fee), and he can sell snacks and drinks as well.

We found out about on-line auction sites, where books can be bought cheaply and sometimes sold at a good profit. Joe was thinking about having an on-line auction within my book website, as well as list the books at external on-line auction sites.

All our plans are completed, perfect on paper. Our next step is to translate these paper-perfect plans into action. Now that would take a lot of time and effort!
